Thousands of children in our community rely on free or reduced meals provided at school during the school year. For some, it’s the only meal they receive each day. For many families, instead of summer being a time for fun and relaxation, it’s a stressful time as they struggle to provide food for their children, especially due to the seasonal nature of employment opportunities on the Treasure Coast. Children who visit sites who partner with Treasure Coast Food Bank receive a meal and also participate in fun enrichment activities and physical activities focused on the promotion of healthy eating and healthy living.
The Summer Meals Program is a seasonal program occurring annually during the summer months. 2021 dates are as follows:
• Starts: 6/7/21• Ends: 8/6/21
The Summer Meals Program (also known as Summer Food Service Program or SFSP) was created to ensure that children in low-income areas could continue to receive nutritious meals during long school vacations when they do not have access to school lunch or breakfast. The Summer Meals Program targets school-aged children under the age of 18. The meals are distributed to partnering organizations that are dedicated to helping children who are struggling with hunger.
