How to Talk to Your Kids About Coronavirus

News about the coronavirus and precautionary measures to slow its spread have become increasingly prevalent in our daily lives. Caregivers, educators, parents, and other trusted adults can help kids make sense of what they see and hear.

The books in our Hygiene & Staying Healthy section are great as read alouds (even virtually!) to start conversations about germs, hand washing, and visiting the doctor with very young children

But how do you answer questions honestly and accurately while minimizing fear or anxiety?

PBS Kids (For Parents) has the following 3 tips:

  • Take cues from their questions to share age-appropriate facts.
  • Reassure them they are safe.
  • Share the simple things they can do to be "germ-busters".*
