Recently, the Chamber of Commerce awarded its Young Floridian scholarships to fifteen seniors in categories ranging from Academic Excellence to Drama to Human Services. The winners were selected based on not only their leadership and academic achievement, but also how they give back to the community.
The process of selecting the winners included an interview with three judges. The judges represented over 60 businesses in our community. During the interviews, the young men and women had to describe something or someone that had influenced their life. In those interviews, the students described moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, school teachers, pastors, after-school program staff, and neighbors – adults in the community who believed in them, encouraged them, gave them hope.
We at the Children's Services Council are proud to be the Title Sponsor of the Young Floridian Awards not only because it recognizes young adults giving back through community service, but because it represents what we believe is our community’s greatest strength – St. Lucie’s commitment to our children.
Through over 60 businesses investing their time and money to make the event possible to the adults who provide hope and opportunity for our youth to succeed, we are a community that believes in our children.
